SECRET MUSEUM Factory Tour

A unique opportunity to see behind the scenes of a traditional ceramic tile manufactory. 'The Firing Line' produces dust pressed tiles using traditional techniques & c.100 year old cast iron machinery.

There are two factory tours during Heritage Open Days 2021:

  • 11:00am-11:45am Saturday 11th September

  • 11:00am-11:45am Saturday 18th September

*Winkhill Mill is a working factory. Unfortunately it is not fully accessible; it has a small number of steps & trip hazards throughout. Visitors must take extra care on entry & do so at their own risk. Further details are displayed at the entrance.

Heritage Open Days Speakers’ Corner

What:

Heritage Open Days Speakers’ Corner: Join members of The Heritage Network to launch the Heritage Open Days festival in Stoke-on-Trent. Find out what’s in store as participating hosts let you know about events coming up over the next 10 days. 

The Heritage Network brings together conservation campaigners and the keepers of Stoke-on-Trent's unique heritage to deliver the Heritage Open Days festival in the city. In a traditional Speakers' Corner style, local organisations will have a few minutes to tell you what’s on offer and will bring along their displays and curios. The event will take place at the bandstand in Hanley Park and will officially launch this year's festival in Stoke-on-Trent.

SECRET MUSEUM Window Display

A unique showcase of community-sourced tiles, ceramics & related ‘curios’ displayed in the 'shop window' of a traditional tile works.

Visitors will be be able to enjoy 50 small scale exhibits viewed safely from Swan Street. A virtual version of the exhibition will also be available online which provides additional information, shared stories & an alternative experience.

OPENING TIMES:

Friday 10 September: 10:00 - 15:00 

Saturday 11 September: 09:00 - 12:00 

Thursday 16 September: 10:00 - 15:00 

Friday 17 September: 10:00 - 15:00 

Saturday 18 September: 09:00 - 12:00

*This display combines with Made in Stoke-on-Trent (CLAYHEAD); a series of initial ‘fringe’ events that contribute to the British Ceramics Biennial 2021 (Saturday 11th September - Sunday 17th October).
