DIY heritage: Community-sourced pop up display of 'private histories' created by visitors to Hartshill Heritage & Vintage Fair. Local people have been invited to bring along ceramic items or related archive material (photographs, documents) that matter to them. These shared stories will provide the basis for conversations about Stoke-on-Trent's history & contemporary cultural identity. With permission - we will photograph items and capture stories for our ongoing 'peoples museum' collection.
We are excited to be working closely with Spode Museum Trust at this event. We look forward to encouraging and listening to 'Spode Stories' as an integral part of our wider conversations on the day. SMT are independent custodians of the extensive and internationally significant Spode Collection (ceramics, copper plates, pattern books/archives, tools/ equipment & molds). The Spode Museum is a jewel-in-the-crown of current renewal work taking place at 'Spode Works' - the historic site of this important pottery manufacturer from Stoke-on-Trent.
This work also forms part of our Fun Palaces Ambassadors Programme funded by Paul Hamlyn Foundation & Wellcome Trust. We hope this event will encourage some visitors to get involved in our longer term activities.
Our activity is free & open to all (Event has suggested 'entry donation' 50p)
